Safety

Safety comes first

“Cerpro will use integrity and professionalism to consistently provide value to our clients with thoughtful planning, exemplary execution and a desire to succeed in every aspect of our business”     Peter Pleskie – President of CerPro

CerPro is a dynamic, energetic, positive thinking company that has experienced tremendous growth & accomplishment during 5 years of existence. We currently have 250 employees complimented with 75 full time qualified contractors.

CerPro’s Safety Program sets forward the fundamental principles of EH&S and creates a due care and attention value system designed to develop a safety conscious culture; at CerPro “How you think is everything-SAFETY FIRST” is our daily behaviour.

CerPro’s Safety Program is fully registered with ISNetworld, and also profiled on the Canada HSE safety verification website.

CerPro has a Certificate of Recognition which mandates a strict level of compliance with both statutory (OH&S) regulations as well as Industry Recommended Practices (IRP’s).

The Alberta WCB premium for CerPro is at the maximum 40% discount based on 340,000 Total Man Hours Worked in 2008.

Saskatchewan WCB has issued a “Certificate of Achievement” to CerPro in 2009 for the exemplary record of not having a recorded injury incident in the past three years.

CerPro’s Safety Program Manual is a “living document”, adapting to the evolving nature of our business, with the latest edition completed in 2008 and pocket manuals distributed throughout our work force.

CerPro has a fully functioning Drug & Alcohol Policy that aims to eliminate illegal substance use within our workforce by following a testing protocol.

CerPro believes that safety and technical training are core elements in maintaining a professional approach to safety and loss control programs. All field employees are trained to meet basic industry standards in the following:

First Aid/CPR, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, H2S Alive. Additionally, specific safety/technical training for employees requiring certification or upgrading is ongoing and generally includes: Ground Disturbance, Defensive Driving, Confined Space Entry, Picker Truck Operations, Crane Operations, Forklift Operations, Composite Pipe Installation, Fusion and Data Logging, Loss Control Fundamentals, IRP 16, and environmental awareness.

To accomplish the objectives of our Safety Program, CerPro has four individuals dedicated full time to Safety/Regulatory/Loss Control, two licensed HD Mechanics on staff ensuring mechanical safety for company vehicles and equipment, a Professional Engineer, a Quality Control Manager, a Legal Counsel, and an Environmental Specialist.

Regular safety practice

Following are some of the regular practices that we follow to put our Safety Program into practical application on a daily basis:

  • training – new hire orientation includes a review of our Safe Work Practices,    Safe Job Procedures, Company Rules, “0 Tolerance” Drug & Alcohol policy, as well as TDG and WHMIS training – also establishing a practice of immediately applying for replacement tickets for any new employee who is not in possession of a valid permanent required safety ticket.
  • daily Hazard Assessment/Toolbox Meetings discussing hazards & job scope, including sign-off by all crew members.
  • weekly general Safety Meetings which includes discussion of potential hazards, safety policies & concerns as well as any previous week’s incidents that can be used as learning tool.
  • regular field safety inspections.
  • providing on-site CerPro supervisors with a complete file of copies of crew members Safety Tickets.
  • immediate reporting of any incidents to client’s Safety Personnel; as well as follow-up with appropriate Action Plan and actions taken to address any concerns arising form said incident – also maintaining a spirit of collaboration & cooperation with client’s Safety Rep.
  • acquisition of a 4WD Emergency Transport Vehicle (re-furbished former ambulance) for use in areas where the OH&S requirement for such applies
  • a full-time Licensed HD Mechanic on staff to effect a high level of mechanical & safety maintenance on all company trucks and equipment.
